With the advocacy of VFTA and others, Ruby the elephant was reunited with her companion in the L.A. Zoo in 2004. In 2007, her life has been significantly improved since she was moved to the free-roaming, natural habitat of Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) Wildlife Sanctuary in Northern California.

Working Cats have been successfully placed in the Orchid Mart, Crossroads School campus, and the Los Angeles Police Department Wilshire and Foothill divisions to repel rats. This has allowed the cats to live in cooperation with the businesses they help.

Human-Animal Relationships
Project students participated in a
city-wide effort in Los Angeles to urge the City Council to pass a pet
overpopulation ordinance, which significantly raised the license fee for
unaltered dogs, created a special fee for breeding, and limited breeding
to only one litter per year. The ordinance was voted into law in
1999.
